My name is Steve Birdman, and I am a 19 year old student learning at Red Rocks Community College. They have a sensational program and it has been a life fulfilling experience up to this point in my second semester. I have been woodworking since the beginning of 2005 and have brought previous artist experience to woodworking. I was part of the "Dead Cabinet" production with Nic Kaufman in our gallery under Heady Woods. I have more creations to be displayed in the coming time.

Created this with a maple blank that i spun on the laithe. I then made a spot for the candle to fit into by spinning the inside of the maple piece. I then used a mini dremel tool to make a hole for the crystals to sit into.

Created this by mistake because of the walnut blank getting a hole in the middle of it while being spun on the laithe. But i didnt give up and found a picture that fit it that was from Myrtle Beach,SC so i glued seashells on the inside, rewaxed it and now its a frame.

This table was created using maplewood and cherry wood. The table top and bottom shelf were cut using a bandsaw and measured and drawn by eye. The apron connects to the leg with a mortise tenon joint. The leg was crafted using a draw knife, spindle sander, and orbital sander. The cherry leg is also undeneath the bottom maple shelf going 3 inches high. Completed this in the spring of 2008, my second semester of college.

Created this 3-d sculpture out a basswood using various crystals for the eyes. The darkness on it is used to give a rustic look by rubbing burnt sienna stain on some areas. I enjoyed this one alot and started with a piece of wood that had the faces drawn on. then used a dremel tool and hand carved the rest.

I created this jerry bear out of basswood. It started as a chunk of wood about 10in by 3in by 3 in and drew the jerry bear on it. Then used the bandsaw to cut all around the outline, the used and electric carving tool to form the a very rough shape then used a carving tools to do the the rest. Green and blue are oil paint thinned down so it can dry easier. The paws and face details are done using a burning tool. The bear was then shellaced.

Created this in the beginning of my senior year before the Dead Cabinet with Nic Kaufman. Using a mass amount of wood to creat this unique bedside table I wanted to test out designs with different woods and patterns. I used Walnut, Willow, Pine, Mahogany, Poplar, Cherry, and Oak. I really enjoyed this process and found some great ideas out of it.

This bowl was made from scraps of fellow classmates with Padauk, Cherry, and small layer of Walnut and Mahogany. The small layer has a curved slant going around it do to the piece no being squared when glued together. This actually gave it a pretty sweet effect. *NFS*

My first furniture piece i ever created in the Spring of 2005 in my Sophmore year of HS. Wanted to challege myself right of the bat with this idea and came up successful for the first year until the top starting warping in my humid basement and split on the end but the diamond part stayed intact. No longer own this item since legs broke and got permenant marker stains on top as well so gave top to my old weird neighbor. Used Cherry and Poplar wood.
